WeREADY 2015: The Recruitment Funnel

2015 WeReady

Has it occurred to you that regardless of your grade from school, if you are looking to get hired by any serious employer, you would need to go through the Recruitment Funnel? What is this Recruitment Funnel?

Has it also occurred to you that regardless of your qualifications and years of experience, if you are looking to change your job or get a new job, you would need to go through the Recruitment Funnel? So what is this Recruitment Funnel?

It is the selection or screening process organisations use to determine who gets employed into their organisations. Having the knowledge, skills and experience for a job is good and ESSENTIAL, but that isnt the whole story. Having the knowledge, skill and attitude required to scale successfully through the Recruitment Funnel is the CLINCHER. In my years of experience in Human Resources I have seen potentially bright but ill-prepared candidates screened off by this funnel.

I have seen the person who assumed that it wasn’t necessary to come dressed in a tie; I have seen the one that thought a khaki trouser would do just fine in a bank interview; I have seen the one who didn’t bother to tuck his shirt in (honestly); I have seen the one who thought showing off some flesh would help her case; I have seen the one who must have wondered if they weren’t aware that she had a first class; I have seen the one who came innocently in the tailor-made clothes which was what she had; I have seen the one who thought that having a first class didn’t require much preparation; then there was the one who thought that knowing ‘someone’ covers up for everything…

    Interesting note..

Dressing for the part in UK is what we normally call it..

We don’t expect you to dress with tie to a job needing the basics i.e. motoring technicians, bricklayers and other physically engaging sort of work..

We often say to profile the role before dressing for it..

For instance in a welfare state like ours, some sector dressing fully is taken as intimidation since we need to portray empathy…

You cannot help someone in despair wearing a £300 suit, so we often profile the roles..

Nice work I must say…. Well done sir
